Five Things to Keep in Mind Regarding the Enlist Weed Control System
April 2020Stine® Enlist E3™ soybeans combined with the Enlist™ weed control system offers flexibility and control that growers need to tackle weed resistance and generate results. There’s no doubt this system is the way of the future. In fact, approximately 20 percent of U.S. soybean acres are expected to be planted to Enlist E3soybeans in 2020. As the developer of the Enlist herbicide system, Corteva® Agriscience (formerly Dow AgroSciences) recently released guidance on herbicide application and tank mixing procedures. Here are five tips that will help you realize the system’s full capabilities and maximize your use of its products.
- Enlist One® herbicide plus Liberty® Enlist One herbicide can be safely combined with glufosinate (Liberty) herbicide to control glyphosate-resistant weeds. The strength of this program lies in its multiple sites of action that work together to give growers the ability to customize their program.
Enlist One and Liberty herbicides can be applied on Enlist E3 soybeans in one of two ways — either as a tank mix or in sequential passes. Corteva recommends growers start clean, use effective pre-emergence residual herbicides, spray post-emergence when weeds are small (roughly three inches or less) and use up to two post-emergence applications of each herbicide. Read more here.
- Enlist Duo® Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D® technology is also labeled for use over the top of Enlist E3 soybeans and contains a proprietary blend of glyphosate and Corteva’s new 2,4-D choline. The result is two modes of action working together to deliver unrivaled weed control that is designed to land and stay on target. Enlist Duo can be applied as a post-emergence application up to R2 or full flower. Learn more.
- Enlist One and Enlist Duo herbicide applications. Knowing how and when to apply both herbicides is key to the system’s success. Prior to spraying, growers need to consider their application window. Is your crop at the right growing stage for a herbicide application? Are your selected herbicides tank-mix compatible? Is your sprayer clean, and are you using the appropriate nozzles for application? Once it’s time for the application, growers need to factor in weather conditions, including wind and temperature. While these products have very low chances for volatility, you don’t want to risk application if the wind and temperatures do not align with recommendations. Growers will also want to ensure they’re using the proper spray volume, rate, pressure and boom height. Learn more here about applying Enlist herbicides with confidence.
- Enlist Herbicides Tank-Mix Sequence Procedures. While the Enlist system offers flexibility for tank mixing, there are a number of important steps and regulations to review prior to application. Corteva recommends growers start with a clean sprayer, use the appropriate water carrier volume (10–15 gallons per acre) and add products one at a time and in proper tank-mixing order. Please consult the full Enlist Product Use Guide for specific tank-mixing tips, sequence procedures and sprayer setup prior to hitting the field. Recommendations can also be found here.
- Enlist weed control program on neighboring crops. Both Enlist One and Enlist Duo contain Colex-D technology — a formulation designed to reduce applications from drifting. Corteva notes that, when combined with a low-drift nozzle, Colex-D technology can cut drift by as much as 90 percent compared to traditional 2,4-D. Enlist E3 soybeans are also compatible with nearby non-susceptible crops, which include soybeans without the Enlist trait in addition to corn, peanuts, alfalfa and wheat. In other words, no buffer is needed when you plant Enlist E3 soybeans and apply Enlist products right next to these crops.
Hard-to-control weeds are no match for Stine Enlist E3 soybeans and the Enlist weed control system. The high-yielding genetics of Stine Enlist E3 soybeans combined with the versatility of the Enlist herbicide platform make this advanced combination the system growers need for their fields.
